My laser treatment

Im new to this site so hello to all.

Im a lad of 23 and have recently finished a course of 4 treatments of laser at the Harley Medical Group in the UK. I had laser done on my back (hairy and coarse in patches) Upper arms and shoulders.

I would say that I am pleased so far of the outcome, and I have also booked a top up treatment for my upper arms. My last treatment was at the end of November. My arms have been ok, but become a lot finer and thinner, have been smooth for the last few months, but just recently have started to come out and stayed to a length quite minimal. I shaved them last night and they are growing back already like they previously were before treatment. Im abit worried whether it has worked at all, but I guess when I have my treatment next week it will resolve and be back to the way it was before. I don’t think I will be getting my back done as im happy with it at the mo, even though the hair is very fine and minimal. But no way as bad as it was before I started.

I assumed that the course of 4 treatments they recommend that would be it, but as ive read on here, some may need 6-8 or even more treatments.

Im also considering having the lower part of my arms done and my chest, I have skin type II so am a good candidate. So hopefully I can see results after 2-3 treatments. I don’t want to go completely hair free, but want to reduce it in scale. I had my chest and arms waxed 6 weeks ago, but will this effect the laser? I hope not.

im glad ive found this site and its become very helpful.

Welcome to hairtell and glad you have found this site to be helpful.

So far so good. We need to hear stories about men who are having laser treatments for their back, upper arms and shoulders who have not experienced laser hair stimulation. Even though you have not gone through all your hair growth cycles being that it is only four months, this initial report sounds very good. Please continue your story over the next year and a half and let us know how you are progressing so you can help others. You may not need as many treatments as they guesstimated, so that is great indeed. Just stay with the plan that they suggest.

Chest area and forearms are good places for laser, so go for it, since you seem to be getting good results on areas that have a bit of a reputation for going the other direction (increased hair stimulation). Even if the hair is reduced in size and color, that still spells success.

The waxing will help sychronize the hair growth. Maybe you can start the chest and arms in 3-4 weeks when most hairs will be back and in the anagen stage of growth, which is necessary for disabling the hair.

I’m assuming your hair is dark, as you didn’t mention that. Are you getting treatment with a GentleLase or some kind of alexandrite laser?

Dee

I definitely will get my arms and chest done. I started my 1st treatment in April 07 – and finished a course of 4 treatments in November.
Am getting my upper arms topped up next Monday. This is where I will get my consultation done for my arms/chest.
I was slightly concerned as I shaved my upper arms yesterday – and they are already growing back, and it seems to be an increased ammount?
Im sure this means something to do with the growing stage of the hair (I find it all confusing and frustrating) Hopefully I will only need 1 or 2 more treatments on my upper arms. Maybe 1 on my back – but im happy with my back at the moment.
Too be honest I cannot remember the laser it is but I assume its one of the 2 you suggested.

Thanks for your help.

So you had one treatment in April of 2007, stopped, and then proceeded with 4 more treatments in November or was it November through February?? I’m a little confused now. Find out the type of laser that you are getting treated with,as that would be very important to this discussion. Treatment levels would be even better.

What really matters when doing laser (or electrolysis) is, what an area looks like after a year and a half of scheduled treatments timed to hit as many gowing hairs as possible. Also, important for evaluating an outcome is how stable the area is after 2 years or more from the last treatment.

Your story is still unfolding, so keep your enthusiasm at +O on the excitement scale for now.

Dee

Sorry for the confusion.

I had my 1st ever treatment in April, and finished my 4th treatment in November- so in 7 months had 4 treatments. That was the desired coarse they suggested at the clinic.
SO now im having my 5th on Monday which is just a top up on my upper arms.

I will also get a consultation on my lower arms and chest. I will find out what levels and what laser it is and let you all know.

I suppose im already in the early stage of my process - so give it a year or so i will now the outcome more better. im not very patient and want it all done now, but its a long haul, ill get their finally. i hope!

Thanks. That sounds so much better. Yes,do be patient. For permanent hair removal or reduction, no one really has any other choice!

Hi Anderson

Glad that you are happy with your treatment and progression. Apologies for going off track now :-)- I’ve just clicked on their website to check out what they provide I see that they advertise that they are can also treat blonde, grey white and vellus hairs and someone seems to have convinced New Women magazine back in 2006 that meladine is one of top ten in beauty treatments (my venom for sloppy journalism knows no bounds unfortunately particularly prevalent in Women’s magazines but I don’t read men’s mags so who knows).

So either the Harley Medical Group leaders in laser have failed to update their website (v. sloppy!)or Meladine actually works in which case I bow down and someone had better tell blond haired posters here that all is not lost or I have miss understood what they mean by “treat” or the Harley Medical Group should not be trusted(which would be a shame).

all the best

Wow,this is unwinding to be another story. Good job Detective Anothergo.

If they are advertising outdated or false information, consumer be aware. Laser cannot see light hair and they say it can. If they use a darkening agent, this is not effective. Hopefully, this website has just not been updated, but they are now using an actual laser device, NOT AN IPL. We know your hair is coarse, but is it DARK, Anderson??

Dee

Harley medical are a large well known name over here numerous clinics up and down the country, all types of cosmetic surgery, the works and non stop advertising. I’m sure they’ve probably got a whole range of lasers and hopefully Anderson will have had the correct one for him. But it’s still no excuse to have meladine listed as a hook for customers even more so in the case of such a large well known name. On that basis alone I would not go to them.

Is The Harley Medical group the same place as the Harley Street Sk:n clinic?

No Sk:n is a different group all together. Harley Street is famous it represents top notch the place for top doctors it goes back certainly to Victorian times and maybe probably pre that. If one’s Dr. was in Harley Street it meant you had the money to afford the best. But these day any old Joe can set themselves up in Harley street and people still foolishly assume that they will be getting the best if its Harley Street. Not to say that everyone on Harley St. bad but it is certainly no longer a badge of quality.

I will give them a ring tomorrow to find out what laser it is they have used on me. I just didnt think it mattered, never really thought about it.
But did a look on the internet and said that the Harley Medical Group met their condition of registration to use Alexandrite laser, cool touch Nd: Yag laser

Is your hair Dark, Anderson?

Yes its dark - just rang them its PPX that they specialise in, if that helps? one of the nurses will ring me back in a while.

Here is a thread from 2006 on the Aesthera PPx:

By the Anderson my comments weren’t meant to imply that you are in any way foolish by choosing to opt for Harley medical group!

I noticed that in 2005 their health commission was poor with lots standard almost met but in 2006 they had got their act together and scored Standard Met across all cats.

Actually, you can read all the search results about the Aesthera PPx yourself!

I feel all confused now - sounds like i picked the wrong place!

Anderson which of their clinics did you go to? I ausmed you’d gone to the Harley street one. If they operate like Sk:n you will find that not all the clinics have the same laser and actually their Harley st. clinic will have the latest most up to date models. With Sk:n for instance their smaller non central London clinics tend to have older lasers.
