I am a 30 yr old indian female with medium fine black hair all over my face. Earlier bleaching would cover my hair very well with the hairs becoming totally invisible each time I bleached
Then, I made the terrible mistake of going for Laser hair removal with NdYag coolglide treatment. Now, after 8 treatments I have found that my hair growth has increased and the hairs are thicker and longer than before.
Now, even bleaching does not cover them well.
I have wasted a lot of money and time to end up with even more hair. I am very very depressed over the whole thing
Now, somebody had mentioned electrolysis to me. I am also keen to try it.
But I have read the postings of an electrologist on the internet http://www.hairzapper.com/thermolysis.html. I am terrified after reading her posts and afraid of trying electrolysis in case that i end up doing permanent damage to my face. I could never live with that.
And please dont tell me to go to a licensed electrologist because, here in India , there are no liscensed electrologists . and every street corner beautyshops seem to offer elecrolysis or thermolysis. and theres no way of finding out whos good and whos not. And if you ask them about their experience, they are not entirely truthful either.
In this scenario, please let me know
1 if I should go for electrolysis ?
2 How to find out if the electrolysis is good and wont damage my skin?
even If I go for a test sitting how would I know if she is doing it correctly and that I dont end up with damaged skin and scarring?
i believe you posted this already on another forum and several people helped you out. unfortunately, you had a bad experience with laser as the type of hair that you have in combination with your skin type and area treated (women’s face) should not have been treated with laser in the first place exactly due to reason you describe.
as many helpful people already told you on the other forum (many of us participate in both), there is no scarring and any issues with PROPER electrolysis treatment.
if you run a search on this forum, you will find lots of discussion on this woman who runs that website against thermolysis type of electrolysis. Keep in mind that she only writes negatively about thermolysis type of electrolysis and blend (in addition to laser) in particular, not galvanic which she practices. Her point is basically that nothing else works but her method.
Yes, i did post it in the cosmeticsenhancements forum and did get many helful replies.
But my laser experience was so bad( I get into deep depression every time I look into the mirror) that this time I dont want to do anything that i’ll regret later. Thats why I posted it here to gather every information I can before I go in for Electrolysis. Here, in India there is very little information available about electrolysis and the internet and forums like this are the only way I can gather information. And I must say hairzapper.com really scared me off
At least you now know that hairzappers.com offers out-dated information, so drop it in the ignore file.
So we don’t have to repeat so much, please take the time to read posts on hairtell in the electrolysis section as well as the laser section. Search for posts by James Walker the 7th+++, Arlene Batz, Barbara CPE and of course the ever so humble dfahey, that’s me,Dee, better known as deef on the the other forum.
I treat many Indian, Pakistani, Somali and Turkish women with electrolysis. It all turns out very good for them. No scarring whatsoever. Your only obstacle may be where you live especially if all you see is laser promotion in a country that has many women of color. Keep the information coming as to how successful laser is your locale. If the information that you gave on the other forum is true about all the denunciation of electrolysis, then many women in your country are going to stay hairy or get perhaps get hairier if there is mostly laser salons offered for their problem.
Good luck because I do worry that with electrolysis being poo-pooed in your country and no formal training, you will have a heck of time finding good electrolysis care as mentioned on these forums.
Dee
With skin like yours, you must understand that temporary pigmentation will be a good possibility, and yet it will fade in a short amount of time, leaving you with just hair free skin… that is IF you can find a good practitioner. In many places, most electrolysis providers are self taught, and may never have had any formal training, nor educational upgrades, let alone equipment upgrades.
Good Luck
Jesus, experiences like yours with laser have me very concerned about my situation. I’m south asian as well and I plan on getting some work done on my body (hair is dark and coarse already), but I keep coming across this phenomenon among people of my ethnicity. Females seem to have this happen to them more than males, but in either case it is still rather disconcerting to hear stories like these.
Good luck with electrolysis. It’s a proven method and should work as long as you find someone who can do good work.
M_D, induced growth from laser is only an issue for women on their faces, not other body areas. with males, it’s upper arms and shoulders. Also, this only can happen if the hair is not coarse.
If you’re looking to treat body hair that’s coarse (like bikini or underarms) with laser, you will be fine if you of course find a good clinic with the right machine for you (probably a Yag).
hellooo…
well i’m an indian woman 21 years old living in new york. i am originally from new delhi so i can completely understand your concern of what beauty parlor might be good or what might be bad. where exactly in india are you from? i would recommend getting yourself to a big city like mumbai or delhi and getting treatment there. i don’t think you should go to a beauty parlor…from my experience these women are not qualified to do electrolysis. try finding clinics and places that look kind of westernized i think those are most likely places that will have places with certifications. good luck and let me know if you find any thing
Hi Rani…
I am from Delhi too. But the big ‘clinics and places that look kind of westernized’ offer only laser hair removal and not electrolysis. Here, in India, electrolysis, even though its better suited for Indian skin than laser, is considered as obsolete and is on its way out and only laser is aggressively marketed as the ‘latest and best’ method of hair removal. Its only the smaller beauty parlours that cannot afford to buy laser machines offer electrolysis and the electrologists here are not formally trained. And even the very few bigger clinics or places that look westernized as you term it are no better. I have written my experience with a big clinic with a westernized feel offering a host of services in another thread in this forum under the topic ‘is she doing it right’. In fact this particular chain of clinics even run a beauty academy which teaches various beauty courses . and they even have a course to teach electrolysis!
If you know any other reputed electrology clinic in Delhi , do please let me know.
Is there any other place
Below, is one of many examples of what is displayed or said about electrolysis today in the United States. As a practicing electrologist, I can only say that hopefully the consumer is smarter than this and will study up carefully!! One snippet like “Don’t Use Electrolysis” on Google says it all to a consumer. I hope electrolysis is not relegated to the basement like it has been in India. Too many women of color need electrolysis and it would be pitiful if they could only hope for results from laser. Electrolysis works on all skin and hair colors. It is not scarring, will not cause infection and WILL bring results in 9 months to 2 years depending on the area treated …only if it is performed with good equipment and a skilled practitioner.
Here’s the example I referred to above. Believe me, there are several thousand websites like this on the internet.

I’m suprised and it’s unfortunate that electrolysis is not more popular in india considering the demand there since indian women are prone to fine facial hair growth which is definitely not a good option for laser especially combined with their darker skin. hopefully, you can find one in delhi.
