I’m 20 years old and I started electrolysis about 4 months ago. I am having my underarms done. I have light skin and dark hair. I’ve been going once a week and I dont know how much progress I should be seing at this point. I’ve noticed that the hair definately comes out quicker since I’ve started but she’s been working on the same underarm this whole time. Like I said I’m new to this and I don’t know anyone else who has undergone electrolysis. I have spent quite a bit of money on this and I’m debating if it was a waste. Any advise/answers that I can get would be appreciated.
Hi gushsgirl!
Armpit hair should take maybe 6 to 16 treatments over 6 to 24 months for permanent results, according to a couple of published studies:
Kobayashi (1987): In 73 patients given 3 to 8 treatments at 2- to 12-week intervals, almost no regrowth was observed in observations 6 to 36 months after final treatment with Kobayashi-Yamada thermolysis.
Urushibata (1995): Compared blend with plucking in 14 women, with armpits as test site. Plucking did not decrease hairs; blend took an average of 10 sessions over 27 weeks to achieve permanent hair removal.
There are a lot of variables that can affect results. Be sure to talk to your practitioner about your expectations and results to make sure you are both on the same page.
For all those who still think plucking will reduce hairs any place other than eyebrows or possibly legs.
