I am a male with lots of fine vellus hair on my back. I have never had electrolysis before but I am considering it. What should I expect/do? Will it take less amount of time to get rid of the hair as its only fine vellus hair?
Dear alala,
If these are actually vellus hairs they are, by definition, nearly microscopic and not pigmented — thus, virtually invisible. My suggestion: don’t treat them at all! Even the most hairless of people are pretty much covered with vellus hairs. It’s only when they are visible that you might consider removing them.
Contrary to what seems obvious, I have found that removing gigantic terminal hairs is a much easier job than the vellus/intermediate, “developing” problem. Full beards and fully grown in body hair presents no real problem for electrolysis — except time and money, of course.
The hairs are about a centimetre long and you can feel them which irritates me.
Removing these hairs should not be a problem. How old are you?
You would need to get a consultation with an electrologist so she/he can see you of course. Can you submit picture, please?
The men’s backs that I do, do well with MicroFlash or PicoFlash thermolysis. Make sure the electrologist has a positive frame of mind and the stamina to do a large area. Again, a quality picture would be helpful.
