I think I notice things a little too much because I am really picky. I really like Sharon’s treatment but I feel I trust Livia more with hair. She seemed to look at the whole face beforehand and then removed the right hairs with eyebrows and now they look even, whereas before I kept feeling one eyebrow too much was taken from one side. I also feel Livia presses on the area to reduce the pain. Lastly, she has been removing a lot of hairs from the middle which I don’t think Sharon dared to do much because of the pain, but I was actually comfortable with it. Nevertheless, there isn’t much difference in terms of insertions etc. and I have only had face done whereas you have had other areas done. I probably still am more comfortable with Sharon but I like the treatments from Livia, so I’d just say to anyone that it doesn’t matter who you go with, just book with anyone there. As mentioned by someone else Elaine’s insertions seem faster but I guess I would need to book an appointment with her to find out, although you’d be a better judge! (If something pleases me I will talk a lot about it and if something doesn’t then I am very sure to point it out).
I assume your sister hasn’t had any treatments for awhile?
It’s good that you have managed to find someone who does exactly what you want and without having to go elsewhere (for now)!
Even though I had an hour’s appointment I felt she was a bit rushed yesterday evening because she didn’t really give me the chance to tell her what hair structures need removing. But it was okay because I’m not fussed. For example, on the upper lip, I noticed today that she really just went for the unbleached hairs where there were a number of blonde ones which were longer and more noticeable than the rest. Sharon usually looks at it a bit more (for me anyway) and does the most obvious hairs, so a mixture of bleached and unbleached. But all this comes down to the electrologist getting to know what you want over a number of sessions, so I’m sure if I was regular with her she would do so.
On the pain side, I didn’t find that Livia pressed any more than Sharon for me but maybe that’s because I don’t seem to register the pain so she didn’t feel I needed it.
My sister had an appointment a few weeks ago but it was mainly to maintain regrowth on the eyebrow/forehead area and some time on side of face clearance. But nothing that shows a big visible difference yet since the last set of pics.
On Thursday I had a 45min electrolysis app after some time. It was my 27hr with my electrologist and during this entire time I have never had a bad reaction anywhere on my face or body.
Of this 45minutes, I had some work around the eyebrows, most of the time on the chin and sides of face, and a few minutes (3-4) on the upper lip as there were again some hairs that were bothering me.
When I reached home, everything had calmed down like normal and like I had nothing done. However, when I woke up the next morning, I had a few red bumbs on my upper lip. Strange but I put it down to bad hygiene as I was exhausted and went to sleep without washing my face. My electrologist had cleaned the area before treatment and tea tree oil afterwards as normal. Now today, Saturday, I have again awoken with an upper lip that is almost completely red and swollen and slightly itchy, the corners of my mouth are dark and sore and she didn’t even do any work in this area! It looks like hives.
Does anyone know what could have caused this? And why is it only on my upper lip?! About 6 weeks ago, I was having some body rash issues that my doctor had no clue about - a symmetrical small red raised follicle type rash over my torso and limbs that was extremely itchy. And also a large swelling of my outer labia engulfed and surrounded by a very large area of darkened, flaky, extremely itchy skin. I was off work and on antibiotics (as the labia looked infected) and anti-histamines because I couldn’t stop scratching. I also had surgery about 3 weeks ago and I have read that hives can develop after a period of stress.
I don’t think my lip has anything to do with electrolysis but it may have triggered something. I don’t know what to do to make it go down!
It certainly sounds like an overall stress reaction to me. Is there any chance you can try to make it a relaxing weekend? Maybe a good long soak in a warm tub to relax, with some peaceful music to help?
Sorry to hear you are having a problem with your skin.
To me the dry, flaky skin and itching and random areas sounds a bit like eczema. A friend and a relative of mine has eczema so I have seen skin that has what you have describe. For my friend, he had late onset eczema which developed when he was 28 years old. He puts on some sort of steroid cream.
However it could also be an allergic reation to food, as my father developed an allergy to aubergines a few years ago, which makes him break out into similar rashes to what you describe. He ate alot of aubergines throughout his life with no problem, and then suddenly he was getting all of these rashes. He had an allergy test they found that his body had developed this allergy as a reaction to having too much. Maybe this could be what is happening for you?
I’m sorry to hear that you are very difficulties with your skin. I wonder if it could be related to your illness and operation - your immunity may be low at present. I would suggest rest, lots of water and good nutrition. Of course if it persists go and see your G.P. Have you tried camomile, or aother natural soothing remedies? You probably have.
I do wish you better and it clears up quickly. With the current sunshine a good does of vitamin D might help.
The swelling went down, leaving me with a dry a pigmented upper lip area, extremely dry actual upper lip and very sore corners of the mouth. I have no idea what on earth happened. I saw the Dr. today for some other things and mentioned it to her but she didn’t say much due to lack of time to discuss it properly and because there is nothing to see now apart from the pigmentation and cracked corners of the mouth.
Dionysus - Thanks for the suggestions. Even before the upper lip incident I had been contemplating eczema from what I had read online. I don’t know how this would be confirmed. I just hope I don’t have any more flare ups. I think stress is the most likely cause but I’m definitely keeping a record of what I’m eating now.
I’m cautious of having my upper lip treated again now, in case there is any link to that?? Perhaps an allergic reaction to something related with electrolysis i.e. tea tree oil??
I think I figured out what caused my reaction - tea tree oil
I haven’t had electrolysis again but the other day I developed a spot on my upper lip near my nose. I left it alone for a few days, hoping it would go away but then it developed a white head. So I spot treated with TTOil on Thursday night and twice yesterday. This morning I woke up with the area immediately around it, up to my lip all red and crusty like it had been weeping.
The stuff I use is really dilute as well (I dilute myself). I think I mentioned last year that Sharon had said it seemed that the tea tree oil was possibly causing some irritation and dryness (she could see under the magnification). I guess it just got worse!
Try substituting the Tea Tree oil with pure Lavendar oil…there is no need to dilute it (you can use it neat on skin without problems), though you can dilute it if you wish.
I used to use just tea tree after treatments, but I did get dryness. I then looked up aromatherapy oils online and found alot of information on the antiseptic/skin healing nature of lavendar oil. I have since been using it more than I use tea tree, and I find it helps with post treatment such as keeping the whiteheads at bay, and it doesn’t leave me with any dryness or irritation (which I used to get after a while of using tea tree oil).
Once the previous episode had calmed down, I had been using rosehip oil which seemed to help get the skin back to normal quicker. But yes, I do need something to use immediately afterwards to keep the whiteheads after electrolysis away.
the skin may have reacted because of the hot weather, (hottest april in 300 years, who knew they had global warming back then!) when i was in Sydney we would apply ice packs to the skin, to reduce reaction. also if you are reacting to the oil, change to aloe vera gel, natural antiseptic, very cooling and the gel creates a barrier over the skin keeping it clean.
Thanks mhawkes, yes my electrologist started using aloe vera instead when she suspected the tea tree oil was to drying for me but I found I would get one or two whiteheads. Whereas with tea tree oil, nothing. Oh well, a few whiteheads is much better than what is happening now!
You can dab on the tea tree oil and then put aloe vera gel right over top of it immediately. I like to use it with a carrier, like aloe, so it isn’t so drying. I use a mix of organic tea tree with lavender because it smells yummy.
Hello,
I use Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner every day since I’ve begun treatment and have had very few whitehead issues. It is alcohol free and feels very gentle. Maybe something like that would help! Good luck!
