Hello wonderful forum! I am thinking about getting electrolysis on my the hairs I get around my nipples, aprox 20 coarse hairs per nipple. I’m 30 year old female and have had this issue for almost 10 years and I have always plucked in this area. If people have any practical advice (machine type, etc) and/or personnel stories/realities at all to share about electrolysis on the nipple area, I would be thrilled to hear them. I want to start looking for a practitioner in my city (Toronto, Canada) soon.
Hello,
Sarah Shrigley or Elizabeth Ann are who you want to see. I’ve had electrolysis in that area (and others) by Sarah and the results were fantastic. She’s very busy so you’ll have to wait 3 months for an appointment so Elizabeth Ann might be quicker to give you an appt.
Pain in that area was minimal although I think I eventually used a numbing cream. (PM me and I"ll tell you where to go for a privately made concoction.)
You are very fortunate to have Maven offer you a couple recommendations. That is usually the toughest part of giving electrolysis advice. We don’t always know where the best practitioners are.
Breast hair is easy peasy. You should be able to get a clearance first visit. Stop tweezing immediately. I like either thermolysis or blend electrolysis for the areaola’s. Since you only have a few hairs, my preference would be Blend, but don’t worry if your practitioner uses thermolysis. None and I mean NONE of my clients have ever needed a topical anesthetic. A well engineered modern epilator offers more comfort than an oldie, but goodie epilator, but the skill factor is more important.
Thank you so much, I will look both of them up and keep the cream offer in mind as well! Also, I’m curious to know what stage you’re at now - how often do you go back for electrolysis in the nipple area compared to when you started getting electrolysis there?
Never!!!
Like many on this board I was a slave to my hair growth. Mediterranean background so VERY hairy although I think there might have been a hormonal component to the growth as well. I couldn’t wear skirts/shorts and bathing suits were out of the question unless it was it was burqini! : )
After several years of regular appointments with Sarah (mostly) my lower legs, underarms, stomach, nipples, bikini line and face look great!
I am now learning the technique and buying a professional machine so I can do my daughter.
Keep in touch because I might need another body to practice on!
As for the numbing cream I honestly can’t remember whether i used one or not. I don’t think so but I am a bit of a suck so it’s possible.
Sarah does use an older machine but her work really is permanent although she has slowed down since I started going to her years ago. For nipples that’s not such a big deal since the hair count is pretty low.
If you are considering body work I might offer other recommendations like DIY (or do-it-on-each-other)
By the way, the numbing cream is made by a local pharmacist who is also an esthetician. It’s not a homemade brew.
It’s more potent than Emla and cheaper.
I had this area treated. Had approximately the same number of hairs as yourself. Some were a bit stubborn but they eventually succumbed (maybe about 14months after starting treatment) and I no longer need any treatment. Having said that, towards the last few months, I only needed a few zapped every 4 weeks when I went for treatment.
[size:20pt]NOW THIS[/size] is what a skilled electrologist can do in the 9-18 month range for a superfluous hair problem. This is why electrolysis is still the gold standard that other systems try to compete with.
Thank you all for the info and Maven, thanks again - I now have an appointment booked for next week. Consultation/initial electrolysis session. Perhaps I’ll add my belly button area, which I also tweeze. (By the way, I stopped tweezing completely as was advised by Dee above!)
A question: in terms of managing re-growth between sessions, in general, I think I read on the forum somewhere that some people still shave between sessions. I imagine this is okay because the root of the hair is still present, unlike with tweezing? Is shaving okay as long as there’s some hair regrowth for the electrolysis professional to work with?
Thank you…
Yes, exactly.
I shaved between sessions and I didn’t find any adverse effects in terms of the time it took to clear the area.
Shaving or clipping is fine. Generally, you should be going in to kill the hair as soon as it shows up, so that is almost unnecessary most of the time.
Update: I had my first consultation plus 30 mins of treatment last week, enough time to clear the area completely. I had small red bumps form where each hair was removed - the bumps shrunk after a day and are now pin-point sized dots, kind of like little tiny scabs, I suppose. The electrologist told me to swab area with peroxide for the first few days and call her in two weeks.
That sounds good.
hello all, thought i would give an update: i had my second visit last week (3 week intervals) and had aprox 15 nipple hairs removed that had grown in after my first electrolysis appointment. from what i can tell, none of the ‘original’ nipple hairs that were removed during my first appointment or i guess it’s called ‘first clearance’ have returned. (I also had aprox 20 hairs removed from my belly button area - not going to bother with the finer, paler hairs.)
i do have a question - can multiple hairs grow out of one follicle? in other words, a follicle that was treated shouldn’t have any hair grow out of it, should it? unless i go through major hormonal change or something like that?
thanks forum, you’re all wonderful people.
It is very common to have cross-follicles around the areola. May appear to come from the same hole, but in reality, both hairs are produced by different follicles.
Thank you for info and for the rather beautiful illustrations = )
