hello
im getting electrolysis treatments for almost 12 months now on my stomach and bikini area…tve gone every 4 weeks and now that the hair is getting less were leaving more space in between the treatments…like 6weeks…so like i said the hair is getting less so it works which is awesome but i have another problem thats really kind of freaking me out
i do everything i know for aftercare…like i put ice on afterwards…and use aloe vera/which hazel gel over night and of course teatreeoil…i start to scab 48h after the treatment which i think is normal on the body since its just a healing process…but once the scabs have fallen off i have pink dots…some are even kind pf brownish…and even though i can tell that dots i got from treatments i had at the begning (so months ago) are slowly fading away…im worried alot…i mean i dont want my skin to be damaged permantly…becuase if this would stay id feel just as uncomfortable as i did with hair…if not even more.
i did search on here for similiar cases…and found some stuff…but not alot to be honest which worries me even more becuase no one else seems to have such a priblem as i do…so i just wanted to ask the experts here…if this is still kind of “normal” since my skin is sensitive and light…and if it will just take a long time to completely fade…or if theres anythung i can do to make the healing process faster and/or better
What you describe is very common. It is body work. Body work presents with more scabbing afterwards and hyperpigmentaion. It all heals with time. IT ALL HEALS WITH TIME. Wearing loose clothing after treatment until it heals in about a week helps. You don’t want repeated friction to the healing site.
Licorice root extract is helpful for hyperpig and will speed up the healing process. Google it to figure out where you can buy some.
No need to focus on this. IT WILL FADE WTH TIME. You are not scared for life.
thank you for your quick repsonse!
well yea…since i noticed that hyperpigmentation from old treatments is fading away i figured it will all heal in time but it means alot to hear this from an expert!!
it just seems that it takes so damn long for me…do you know how long it regulary takes to fade away after the whole treatment is done and you dont get new ones anymore?
and the licorice root extract sounds nice…but do i need a creme or sometimh like teatreeoil or pills??
No pills needed! These spots will fade. It may take up to 6 months give or take a few. I purposely overtreated my upper thigh with too much energy to see how long it took to fade. It was about 9 months, but I’m perfect once again (tongue in cheek).
So once all the hair is permanently treated and the skin is left alone to heal, you will see changes for the better. Try to relax about this. You can gently exfoliate the area daily (after you heal) and use licorice root or you can let nature do it’s thing the slow way.
Did you ask your electrologist about this? What did she tell you?
yes i did and she basically said the same as you…that it happens on the body and that my skin happens to be more sensitive than usual but that it will all fade in time
do you think shes treating me with too much energy??
I don’t know. Some hairs need a good punch. Ask her if she can use less energy?? She’ll know what to do. I don’t like to undertreat or there will be too much regrowth.
I have a similar problem from electrolysis on the body and i have found it fades with time (a long time though! 6-9 months). I was wondering, do you think a glycolic acid peel would be useful to help speed up the process since it removes old skin and encourages regeneration of new skin. Has anyone tried this before?
Glycolic acid peels are not ideal for addressing hyperpigmentation while undergoing electrolysis as it can actually cause more pigment problems. To make a determination about AHA’s and BHA’s, glycolic being among them, seek the advice of a licensed esthetician.
The reason why hydroquinone is often used to address hyperpigmentation, is that it is a malanocyte suppressant.
What does this mean?
For some people, when skin is being traumatized, melanin production increases. We most commonly see melanin response as a TAN but anyone who has olive or brown skin MIGHT see the darkened response from other types of tissue trauma – electrolysis, a cut, a burn…
Hydroquinone is fine for body areas as long as they do not have sun exposure. Hydroquinone is banned in many countries because it works so well as a melanocyte suppressant that enough users end up with cancer. Hydroquinone prevents your body from producing melanin and hence you would not tan and you would also not be protected from the harmful rays of the sun.
I often recommend products that contain Kojic acid with licorice root as they work together more effectively.
Thank you Arlene and James! I am indian and have light brown skin, so i get hyperpigmentation from any tissue trauma (anything that causes a scab basically), and it usually takes months and months to heal.
I will look into getting a product as you recommended. Do you think a BHA such as glycolyic acid would be appropriate for areas which i am no longer getting electrolysis (as in an area which has been finished)?
Thanks again for your help.
(P.S. Sorry for hijacking your post Sandra! I hope you don’t mind!)
Glycolic is an AHA, an example of a BHA is salicylic acid.
I would need to know the areas on your body that you want treated with acids, what the climate is like where you are located, I need to know what your skin is like in all of the areas: cracked, itchy, dry, oily, acneic, describe it to me. Also note if you have any moles or skin conditions in these areas (exzema, psoriasis, herpes, etc.). I will respond in a very general manner since you I have not had an opportunity to examine your skin.
i found a creme thats called trio D…its a french creme…and it says that it helps to make pigmentation fade faster…it includes : licorice root extract and AHA…and like i said it would be for my bikini area…so inner thighs and my stomach…im light skinned and im stll getting treatments…so does that creme sound okay?? or would i makde an mistake?
It sounds ok to me, although, one has to be careful how frequently one uses such things, and certainly, one would not want to use this product the day one had hair removal treatments.
