Hi everyone👋
I’m reaching out after much internet surfing and digging in this website because I’m almost 2 weeks post my 3rd session and I’m honestly terrified that I’ve ruined my face. I’m seeing pitting and marks everywhere. I think- begrudgingly- that maybe my skin reaction is NOT as normal as I hoped. And checking a link shared here I think I experienced overtreatment.
The History: I’m in my late 20s, Mediterranean, I struggle with acne and have sensitive combo skin , however my mustache area has been acne-clear and smooth for years. Recently, I became aware of how waxing my mustache has become too damaging to my skin, so I decided to go for electrolysis to remove the hairs entirely. I started in late December 2025 . The electrologist used Blend and it was a 22 minutes session, on my mustache only, but mostly she just plucked the hairs with tweezers without zapping at all, which was a red flag from my research!!. She only actually zapped about 13 hairs where I felt the pulling, and every single one of them left a mark/hyperpigmentation that is still there 2 months later. I will note that she said my skin was too dry and sensitive. And since I’ve been very careful to hydrate.
The Current Nightmare: I found a second closer electrologist and had a session with her 14 days after that first experience(Maybe I rushed things too much:/). Her technique seems better because I don’t feel any pulling or traction—the hairs slide out perfectly and she did far more than 13 hairs in less time, and it’s more tolerable pain-wise than the first session I’ve ever had. But the reaction is insane.
The Sessions: I’ve had three sessions with my new electrologist so far, each spanning a full hour. First session, was ok, the zapping is quick,I told her I would like to target most the areas of upper lip and eyebrows, and she told me I can come weekly to clear most of those areas in a span of a month or two - this surprised me in a good way, since my internet research then made me brace myself for 1.5-2 years worth of treatments not a couple of months, I was so excited! In the 2nd session a week later she spent some time on my eyebrows , upper lip , both had some red marks pop up+redness , but she spent most of the time on one cheek (of my face) , but I hated how red and inflamed it looked after, also cheeks are not a priority for me as much as the eyebrows and upper lips are , so for the 3rd session, I asked her to focus only on my upper lip, under lip, and eyebrows, and to make the gap between sessions two weeks instead of one and not do it weekly so my skin can heal a bit, 3rd session comes around and she spent the most time on my under lip and around the mouth , it hurt alot.
Immediate Reaction after 3rd session: My entire upper lip, under lip, and eyebrows were incredibly swollen and hurt like I’ve been punched for days. Right after the session, the skin was weeping clear/yellow fluid serum just right after.
1 Week Later: I’m starting to see pitting, what seems to be holes or wound, a rough texture that was never there before, and some pain. I also have a massive white pustule near my mouth now also as a result from this session🥲. Eyebrow region have had a decent healing though, with no swelling now and those tiny spots that usually form are almost gone.
Almost 2 Weeks Later: it’s not painful anymore. I have a lot of pimples and raised and non-raised red spots, even very near the lip area. The texture hasn’t healed well, but the white pimples have turned to crust, and I removed them while washing my face.
Another thing that puzzles me in this is that : Even though she’s doing these hour-long sessions, there are still a ton of hairs left in the areas she supposedly worked on, so it’s quite usual for me to walk out still with a visible mustache even directly after a session. I brought it up in recently and she told me she cant see all the hairs because of the redness and so she doesn’t treat those that she can’t see, but thats kinda weird to me since I could see them easily, and it bothers me that the reaction is this bad over not even a half clearance of my mustache.
Aftercare: the current electrologist sold me a expensive ointment (that contains Zinc,Sulfur lanolin, perfume and list of other ingredients…) and told me all I needed to do is put some of it every morning and thicker spread at night.
My Questions:
1. Is it common practice to leave many visible hairs on purpose , like say half or more of the mustache hair in hour long sessions , and not do full clearances?
2. Is a 1-hour session too long for the targeted areas or I’m going too frequently for the area I’m targeting?
3. Does the yellow weeping serum immediately after the session mean she’s basically giving me a chemical burns , am i frying my skin too much? and is a massive white-head/pustule a big NO-NO sign? have I permanently scarred my face in just three sessions? or all this is normal and I should weather through it for some months?
4. Is Electrolysis just not a good fit for my sensitive skin and maybe I should try alternative methods?
5. Should I just stop? I do have a 4th session coming up quite soon.
I’m kind of lost , and this type of treatment isn’t readily available in my region, and I’ve already had two less than optimal experiences, and I feel quite alone.
I would appreciate any advice or insights by experts or people who went through this.
For anyone who read this, thank you for your time and if you’re going through something similar I hope it works out for both of us at the end
I’ll appreciate any response , I’ll probably continue digging through the website too
Thanks!
