Putting off electrolysis for a while...

I am curious to know if any of our experts can tell me what to expect in putting off my electrolysis for a while.

I have been going to my electrologist for nearly a year now. My last treatment was on this past Friday. My treatments were getting much faster and with less pain. I think I would be finished or nearly there at the one year mark especially since I have been so tenacious with making it in each week. However there is a problem.

My Doctor has told me that I am not allowed to have electrolysis anywhere on my body for at least 3 months… What does that mean now? Is my hair going to be out of cycle? What should I expect?

it really depends on what stage you’re in and it’s impossible to tell, especially over the internet. basically, you will just let the hair cycle again and go into telogen etc phases before killing it in anagen. so that hair might not show up for a while again to be killed.

Hi Morgan:

You said;

Why would they say that???

It would be best if you could continue, but I’m sure that the hair which was permanently killed won’t come back. You could get new growth in the meantime though which will feel like a setback
and thus be somewhat demoralizing.

Plenty of clients disappear for the summer and then resume treatments in the fall. Don’t worry. We see this all of the time. Also, a 3 month break will give you a better idea of what the growth is like in those treated areas and enable you to get a greater perspective on progress.

I have a feeling Morgan is on some kind of medication for three months given his other posts that don’t allow electrolysis to be mixed with it…

lagirl,

I will be having some major surgery. When I told the doctor that I was doing electrolysis, he told me that I would have to put it off for 3 months in order to not interfere with the healing process.

Alecia Darling,

The thing that worries me is that all the hairs that are in the anagen phase would go back into a telegen phase. What is the amount of time before those hairs will be back in cycle? I would also wonder if the hairs I zap when I resume treatment will end up costing me money due to them being in a non anagen phase. It’s all basically staying on top of it.

Yes it is very true that I hate to miss appointments and that it would feel like a major setback. I have gotten so used to not shaving. Now it’s like I have to dig out the old razor and be like everyone else for a while LOL

hair cycles vary by area. what areas are you talking about specifically? these hairs will go through telogen, but then will be back in anagen probably in time for you to kill them again. when you shave, you’ll be able to tell which are.

Mostly in the face.

this has a good chart for various parts of the body.

Hey thanks LA girl! That is very good information.

Actually I am pleasantly surprised. It’s been about 2 weeks without a treatment, and the hairs are so sparse. I never thought I would go this long without a treatment. I don’t think anyone is going to notice my facial hair unless they are way up close. Wow! It’s amazing what 70 give or take hours can do.

If you have been getting full clearances, it would take 3 to 6 weeks for all the hair you have left to be visible at any given time to be most visible. For at least 3 weeks after your last full clearance, you would look like you have nothing to shave, and around that 3rd week, it would start to look like you have a few hairs here and there sticking out.

This is the reason full clearances are chosen by men who want to rid themselves of facial hair. You can look finished way ahead of the actual completion of the work.
