Five years ago I was diagnosed with PCOS. The unwanted hair is ruining my life. My self esteem is in the toilet.
With that being said, I tried electrolysis for almost a year (about seven months) three years ago. The results were abysmal to say the least.
The first electrologist I tried was terrible. She spent most of the time eating candy (while treating me) and talking. I’m not antisocial but she would pause constantly to get up to get another tootsie roll or to make her point about the story she was telling (She “talks” with her hands.)
After about three months I did not see any results. I didn’t expect for my skin to be clear or anywhere near clear, but I didn’t see any improvement at all.
I switched to a new electrologist and this one was better (some hair started to get finer), but the treatments were extremely painful. After a session my skin would be HOT to the touch, red, and very sore. I had a lot of swelling in the area. I would try to schedule with her on Fridays because I really couldn’t go out after a session with her for two days. It took that long for the swelling to go down and the scabs to fall off. I told her about my discomfort and she got testy with me. She told me that because my hair is coarse (I’m African American) that the current had to be that high. She told me that lowering the current was not an option. She advised me to ice the area after I got home. I did that but my skin started to become discolored in the area she was treating. I again asked her to turn down the current. She got nasty with me and indicated that she could turn the current down but she would not guarantee results. I stopped going to her.
The pain and discomfort was really too much. On top of that I do not want my skin discolored to remove the hair. I want the hair gone but I want my skin intact.
So, here I am read to try again. I decided to really educated myself about electrolysis and I stumbled across this board. I’m very happy I found this site.
I’ve learned a lot here in a short time. I’ve also done research on other places on the net and I believe that the Blend Method would probably be best for me from all that I’ve read.
I would really appreciate a few names of solid PROFESSIONALS in my area. I live in Northeastern Ohio (Canton, Akron, Cleveland). Pittsburgh/Westrern Pennsylvania is also not too far from me.
I’ve deiced to take hold of this problem and not accept defeat. I know there is someone out there who can help me without wasting my time and money or causing me pain or discoloration to my skin.
If anyone here (consumers or professionals) know of anyone in my area, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks so much.
