Hi I’ve been thinking about going for electrolysis after my long journey of laser hair removal I finally realized it is a scam.
I have been doing some research and have found a lady in the stuart area one town over from where i live who i was referred to?
From what i hear she is really good.
She’s has been in business for over 18 years and used to teach electrolysis in Arizona.
She use’s the blend and galvanic method for removal which i hear are the best.and she uses multi-needle which i think is good also for faster removal?
her name is Denise Horvath idk if anyone has heard of her?
im pretty sure she is CPE certified.
if these credentials are good or not please let me know
I am male about 20 years of age and want to get the sides of my neck done “the hair connects from my beard to the back of my hair line thaks to laser:/” also my lower neck and my upper cheek which i only have a few hairs up there to removed permanently.
I was just wondering what the time frame for something like would be and how much an hour i should be expecting to pay? and will i really be hairless with electrolysis forever!?!?! cause laser screwed me and i wasted a lot of money so im kind of skeptical.
please give me as much info as possible! it is so greatly appreciated!
Laser is absolutely not a scam. You’ll find plenty of success stories like mine here (check out our laser forum here). The problem with unsuccessful treatments lies with choosing a bad clinic who either doesn’t use the right type or laser or the right settings or isn’t treating the right type of hair in the first place. Laser only works on coarse dense growth and the right laser for your skin type at the right settings needs to be used for permanent results. Please read our FAQs at the link below.
Galvanic is the oldest and slowest method of electrolysis. Blend is faster, but thermolysis is fastest. All methods work well in good hands and are permanent. The key word is “good hands” just like with laser. To find out whether someone is good, you need to go in for a sample treatment and judge whether the hair is being released without resistance after being zapped. You also shouldn’t experience any major side effects afterwards on your skin. We recommend trying out 3-4 electrologists if possible and comparing everything. Rates vary anywhere from $60 to $120 per hour.
Also, you should realize that you’re only 20 and that you’ll still be developing more hair somewhere into your late 20s at least. So you will probably need touchups later in life even if you get done soon now.
Also, electrolysis needs to be done on schedule. You basically need to come in for longer treatments when you first start to fully clear the area you want hairfree. Then you need to come in every 2-3 weeks to kill any hairs that pop up and do this consistently on schedule. If you do this right, you’ll be done in about 12 months after your first clearance.
I was wondering. Do you find laser hair removal in Ohio to be quite a bit more expensive than other places?
I have checked numerous clinics around the Columbus, Dayton, Cincy area and their prices seem much higher in contrast to what many of the posters on this forum seem to convey.
Actually just last week my electrologist suggested I call a place in Columbus were she received her laser training. She thought maybe they would offer discounted rates if I voulunteered to be a test subject, or someone that was used to train other people on. But no evail, they were just as pricey as other places I have checked.
I had 15 plus treatments on my beard, eyebrows, chest, arms, and legs. All hair grew back and stimulated more hair that didn’t grow before! And I have done my research and the more I do I see less and less satisfied results from laser? Maybe It isn’t a scam but at least for me it was! They used the alexandrite gentlase on me at 16 & 18mm spot size at 12-16 joules depending on the area. this is one of the best lasers on the market. So I just don’t understand?
But anyways I just scheduled my first appointment for electrolysis on my face and I am excited! “Actually just the consultation” We talked on the phone for about an hour today about her credentials and how she taught electrolysis in arizona in one of the first schools that was approved by the American Electrology Association.
I was actually pretty impressed she does the blend method and said she has worked on men. mostly there upper cheeks areas which is one of the areas I want done I am super excited let me know what you think? Also she charges 60 for the hour you think I should try and talk her down a little bit on the price or is that reasonable?
$60 per hour for electrolysis on a man is WAY REASONABLE. You don’t want to know what you could be paying instead. The only way you dare ask about any discount is if you are willing to pay her up front in a lump sum, and even then, she may not be willing to do any discount. She is already charging a low rate as it is.
I’m assuming you checked out Vickie Mickey at About Face? What area are you wanting to lase? I have had feedback about prices and they do vary, but have not had any feedback recently to advise you well enough. Did you try Kelly Wert at Salon Lofts (Columbus)?
Yup, that is exactly the place! Kelley was under the impression that she ran discounted rates since it was a training center.
I want to have my chest and stomach done. Kelley has my shoulders and middle back almost complete cleared. I am SO happy with the work she has done for me.
I would LOVE to have electrolysis done on my chest and stomach as well. But there is no way I could afford that. There is a lot of hair.
James I want your input
Now I’ve been worried about this since I thought about starting electrolysis! What should I be and should i not be expecting after treatment during healing time? She told me I will be a little red for a couple of hours and that’s it. But that is kind of hard to believe thinking she just wants to make the sale on me?
Is there any thing else I should be expecting cause I know with laser I had more side affects then that?? Like redness for a couple days, white pimples, and minor skin discoloration.
And if so what is the best treatment to speed up the healing process “like what should I put on the treated area if anything at all?”

You probably know this already, but if you have coarse, dense, dark hair on pale skin, then LASER would be great for the chest area especially. Look for a good alexandrite laser and skilled laser tech. Maybe Uncle Fido in Oregon will finance your project ? On the other hand, many find chest and stomach hair looks great - it seems that back hair is not as desirable these days and you are getting that problem resolved.
JHair, GentleLASE is a great laser, but as I mentioned the clinic also has to know how to use it. You were undertreated. The only setting combination that could have possibly been decent is if they ever used 16J on the 18mm spot size. Any other combination of settings you mentioned would have been useless. There is no 16mm, there is 18mm and 15mm spot size. On 18mm, 20J is max and anything under 16J won’t result in permanent reduction.
On 15mm, max is 40J because the impact of joules decreases as you decrease the spot size (i.e. 18mm/20J is almost equivalent to 15mm/40J). So if they used 12-16J on the 15mm spot size, that would have been very low and also useless.
Ok so I got my first session of electrolysis done yesterday
Wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Pain was bearable and I think I have a great electrolysis on my hands.
When I went in she showed me all her credentials and electrology books. She also talked to me about a few guys she did in the past who are done now.
So she gave me free session which I guess was my trial session to see if I could handle it. she completely cleared my upper cheeks which was one of the areas I wanted done. Tuesday I am supposed to go back to start on my neck and I’m so excited!
Now recovery time? when I walked out I was a little red, not to bad though she cleaned me up pretty good! Now this morning though I am still red and now have some little white pimples?? Is this normal? “I am going to upload some pics”
I bought both tea tree oil and witch hazel to use after treatment. She recommended the witch hazel but wasn’t to crazy about the thought of me using tee tree oil? Don’t know why? She said something cause its an oil…?
So I used the witch hazel all day yesterday after treatment and then when I noticed it getting a little more red before bed I put on some tea tree oil cause James says it is really good.
I’m just curious now is the white pimples normal? If so should I just use the witch hazel like she recommended or can I use the tee tree oil? I just want to use whatever is going to make healing time faster and no white pimples or god forbid scabs!
And If I do use tea tree oil should I dilute it cause I heard it can make an area worse cause its strong? And if so what should I dilute it with?
Thanks I love this forum it has truly changed my life in the hair removal journey!
Had you used the tea tree oil the first day, you would have been less likely to have had the white bumps, as the tea tree oil dissolves puss and speeds the healing time for the skin.
You don’t need to dilute tea tree oil, you just have to make sure NOT TO USE TOO MUCH. If you can’t be trusted to not use too much, then you can dilute it with lavender oil, or oregano oil. Olive oil could as easily be used, but it won’t aid the healing like lavender or oregano would. In short, just don’t use a lot. This works with drops at a time. If you use too much, you will have scaly dry skin until the skin gets over it.
I would only use a small amount of tea tree oil and only at night. It’s very potent. During the day, use witch hazel a few times.
Also, avoid using lotions and anything else with harsh chemicals until the skin heals. Keep it dry and clean to avoid white pimples (that’s your skin healing and tea tree oil helps get rid of them).
I usually just get a cotton ball, put it to the end of the bottle and allow the tea tree oil to moisten it. I just use the cotton ball to clean the areas. I use tea tree oil at night because the smell is pretty potent. I think I usually use it maybe for the first three days after.
And witch hazel is fine to use all day. It makes the skin feel refreshed as well
I am also in the process of getting the upper cheek cleared and it is taking for ever because i don’t think i have found a good electrologist yet. how long did it take you to get your upper cheek cleared? did you have a lot of hair on it?
Thanks
The speed at which a person can get an area cleared is a function of how much hair is in the area, how the hairs are spread out, the direction the hairs are growing, the speed at which the hair removal worker can work that area, and the speed at which you can tolerate the work being performed. As such, I have cleared upper lips in 15 minutes, and I have had upper lips that took many hours to clear. You should be able to get it cleared in one sitting if you have someone with skill, and the correct equipment.
Ok so I got my second treatment of electrolysis yesterday.
She did both of the sides of my neck in an hour skipping my cheeks cause there is no regrowth there yet from my previous treatment.
But man it hurt way more then my upper cheeks!
So following treatment i put on some tea trea oil like James said but I don’t see much of a difference from the witch hazel? Still little white pimples and redness the next day?
Also I have little brown spots that are starting to fade now on my cheeks from previous treatment idk if this is normal? I mean there not really that noticeable unless you really look at the area?
I’m going to upload pictures for you guys to see if it’s normal.
“day after treatment on my neck. redness and some white heads?”
Also she is using a “ultrablend” machine on me its pretty old from what she says? She tells me she’s been using it for 20 years and has had great results with it. i don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing?
