starting electrolysis on face

Pinpoint scabbing around the mouth and chin hasn’t been a problem for me. So long as you keep the treated area clean, sterile and moisturized, these usually fall off within two to three days at the very longest.

If you are going to get scabs, then they usually appear 48 hours after a treatment.

Tell her about them and even take a picture and show her so she knows what yo are talking about. Aftercare is very important and I have said here many, many times that I like the witch hazel, tea tree oil and aloe vera routine for at least three days to help with any irritation that MAY develop.

Generally, the first several appointments are going to produce the worse skin reaction you will ever have, so hang tight and do your aftercare.

Other electrologists have their ideas on good aftercare solutions, so don’t poo-poo their advice. Try it and see which works best for your skin. The recommendation I gave seems to work for most very well, so I stick by that advice.

Getting those tough corner of the mouth hairs requires care because those hairs are growing out of equally tough tissue.

For me, an SPF creme is not the answer.

Hi.
Just wondering if anyone knows anything about manuka oil. This seems to be New zealands equivalent to tea tree oil. I think it is not drying on skin. Anyway just wondering if should give this a go and if by chance anyone has tried this product. I have such dry skin and am reluctant to use tea tree oil unless I have to. Thanks

Thanks Caith and Dee will definitely do after care next time!! I have needed to before so under estimated the need to for me lol. Silly me!!! Electrologist had over year ago was plucking though so probably under treating anyway but she did always apply aloe Vera gel straight away too. Also never went for very long usually 10 mins as was only stragglers. Now I have quite a lot. Thank you ipl ;(
The hairs on corner of mouth she did say are old hairs and knitted into matrix. She really did seem very knowledgable.

There has recently been another thread on this forum regarding manuka oil, and it seems to be similar (if not better) than tea tree oil regarding its anti-bacterial properties. If manuka oil is easily available, you should definitely give it a try and report back here. I’m certain many others would appreciate receiving the benefit of your personal experience.

I’m fortunate that neomycin does not irritate my skin, so I use a triple-antibiotic (polymyxin, bacitracin, neomycin) cream the first three days after treatment. Tea tree oil and manuka oil provide an equivalent anti-bacterial function, so it’s really a personal preference based on individual people’s experience. When so many professional electrologists on this board recommend tea tree oil, it’s very difficult to disagree with them.

I remember trying to purchase manuka online and only wanted the smallest bottle that was available. When I decided on what I wanted to buy, they were out of stock and I forgot to check back. Honey s great for wound healing and will try to order some again and see what I think. I would definitely get some manuka and try it kiwichic, especially if it is easily available. PLEASE pass on your thoughts about it’s helpfulness after electrolysis. Maybe you could dab one area with tea tree and another with manuka??

Dee if I am able to source and post manuka oil to you would be happy to? In health food shop today was 40nz for pure oil. So aroun 28 or 30 us roughly. Not sure how much postage would be. Manuka is a nz native plant we have a tree in our back yard. The honey is very good we use it for colds usually works if used early enough.
Happy to let people know about the oil next ti
E too

Thanks so much, but let me see what I can do again on my end first.
Nature gives us the best medicants! Yes, please do share your observations, my friend.

Just a quick question. I have next electrolysis appointment in 3 weeks as I am traveling I have also booked in a hair apppintment just after electrolysis. Now I am wondering if this might not be such a good idea. As I am getting my hair dyed and wonder about this. My skin still has scabs at day three. I just don’t want to risk anything.
I spoke with woman who did electrolysis and she said that scabbing is normal and shows the treatment worked. Thanks

It has been 1 week now and I still have some of the scabs. They are small but still there?? Is this normal. Starting to get concerned. Right upper lip looks good and all scabs gone. But left upper lip still has a few scabs plus what looks like tiny holes close to lip area. Anyway, after talking to my electrologist I wonder if I need to find someone else, sigh, she seemed so good and really lovely too. She said this is normal reaction and shows the treatment worked. I don’t think she will be changing settings :(. Pooh I really do like her and she has an apilus (very rare in NZ). :frowning:

Wait a little longer. When my sister had thermolysis on her face, she still had some scabbing after 1 week but by week 2 I think it was mostly gone.

Are you applying witch hazel at least once a day? Or aloe vera?

The tiny holes may just be the empty follicles, which apparently close up after a while. I may be recalling this incorrectly though…

In my experience, drinking a lot of water sped up my healing time. It’s important not only for the day you get treated, but always. It really makes a difference.

stoppit and hair are correct.

I would be curious about what aftercare you used as well and for how long? Scabbing should disappear in 7-10 days. Do others even notice the scabbing? Pinpoint scabs are okay, if there are not too many to notice.

Did you happen to take a picture before and after? Can you do this next time?

It’s kind of difficult to ask an electrologist to make sure her insertion, intensity and timing are all good so as not to get too much scabbing.

Thanks guys. Here is what I am doing. (albeit I did not start till day 2). Witch hazel (can’t find pure so small amount of alcohol as preservative) and 99.7% pure clear gel. Also SPF moisturizer. Since day after electrolysis huge diet overhaul. Drink water, only one cup of coffee per day. Take vitamin b complex and chelated zinc. Refined carbs to minimum. Prior to this I was very unhealthy (embarrassing) smoker and like to have wine most nights and like three or four coffees (hmm not me really just stress over last 5 or so years had been crazy). Anyway perhaps super dehydrated when started??). Anyway no cigs now for 9 days  and only glass of champers because our house finally sold yippee definitely had to celebrate that one!! Scabs not bad. I just want to make sure I choose best electrysis and make sure treatment is good. I think she is good and is very dedicated. She is actually electrologist too usually can’t find in nz as it is a side to beauty therapy. Perhaps I will talk to her and see if she will adjust setting to minimize scabbing ESP since it is face.

kiwichic, Congratulations  on being smoke-free for nine days. You will find the longer you abstain from smoking, the better and less drawn/wrinkled your skin will look. Nicotine prematurely ages the skin, especially facial skin.

Thanks Caith. Still smokefree. Off for a run in the morning

I bet you are already feeling the difference being a non-smoker makes on that morning run.

Did you know that for every cigarette you smoke, your body loses at least 5 oranges worth of vitamin C? Did you know that the body makes and holds on to fat when you smoke, because the body uses fat to protect itself from toxins?

Not only will your healing be better as a non-smoker, but it will be easier to lose fat, and build muscle as a non-smoker. Do add fiber to your diet, and detoxification foods like Spirulina. If you are not already, start making sure that you have had enough water spread out throughout the day, so you can flush out toxins and excess fats. Just make sure you have enough minerals and electrolytes.

You would do well to add 150 mg of zinc twice a day and at least 1,000 mg of vitamin C every 4 hours to help out.

Wow thanks for that James. I will get the Vitamin c. Will take 2 tablets of zinc as well :). I am actually a total health freak but since we moved and some horrible stuff have been very very stressed and well just ended up with very unhealthy lifestyle :(. Anyway onwards and upwards.
I have soaked oats in morning for breakfast Yum!!! now is summer over here so lots of fresh fruit and veggies too. I was thinking of taking some chorale to help with cleansing my body especially after smoking. What do you think? Thanks

I mean chorella. Sorry sill mobile phone changes my spelling when I don’t want it to

Ok - i am totally upset and worried - I just spoke to an electrologist on the phone and she has said that vellus hair is not treatable by electrolysis? Is this correct? I am so upset. I seriously have a lovely blonde goatee and moustache at the moment (due to stupid IPL)I can’t go out at the moment as I am so worried that people will see in sunlight! It is awful! If this cannot not be treated I don’t know what I will do!
She said that the hairs cannot be treated because they sit in the sebaceous gland? I don’t know enough about hair structure to understand how this could affect the effectiveness of electrolysis? Someone help - really confused and really worried!
