test patch and scabbing????

Hi everyone,

A few days ago I went for an electrolysis consultation, and I had a few minutes treatment on some hairs on my sideburns and chin area. The hair all over my face (chin, cheeks, cheekbones…) is very fine and has been described as ‘vellus hair’.

When the lovely lady was treating these hairs, I didnt feel any pain as it was very tolerable, just a slight sting from the current. She used the ‘Apilus’ system. However, when it came to the sideburn hairs which are slightly thicker and coarser, it did feel more painful and maybe even slightly more resistant?

My comment is that what I have noticed, where the few hairs were treated on my chin & sideburns, tiny dots of scabs have been left, is this normal? I didnt apply any aftercare treatment such as aloe vera or vitamin E so could this be a reason why?

Since I want my whole facial area treated, I really dont want to have these tiny scabs all over my face, is there any advice you can give me? Im hoping the ones I have will go away soon.

Thanks for your help/advice.

Tell your electrologist about the scabs, but I wouldn’t worry about them as they will slough off within a week or ten days if they are that small. Scabbing is not the same as scarring, so don’t worry about that. These tiny scabs sometimes appear for many reasons, but if you electrologist knows that it bothers you, then maybe she will make some adjustments,

Use witch hazel, cool aloe vera gel and don’t do activities that cause you to sweat. I wouldn’t use Vitamin E. Clean, simple and pure is what helps the skin to heal.

Yes, tiny dots of scabs are normal, but they may be controlled with some minor adjustments on your part and the electrologists part. They will go away shortly and you will be fine.

Thanks alot for your reply

I did not use any witch hazel, or aloe vera after my test patch, so maybe this is why I scabbed? I will let my electrologist know about my skin reaction and see what she also advises.

Also, I found that the fine vellus hairs were much easier to extract/treat. compared to the coarser hairs which were definately more painful!

I just wanted to know, do you apply the aftercare (witch hazel, aloe vera) to only the area that has been treated, all over your face?

Thanks and best wishes

hi shelly
who did you go to see for yr test patch?

Hi preety,

I went to see Sara from Harrow for the consultation and test patch. She is a wonderful lady and made me feel very comfortable and at ease.

Did you or have you ever experienced any scabbing yourself? what do you do about after care and how often do you use the aftercare?

Thanks,

shelly

Only apply witch hazel to the areas that were treated. Do it a few times a day for a few days after the treatment. Keep the area dry and clean too.

Dear Preety,

I hope you don’t mind me messaging you on here, but just wanted your advice and personal opinion

Do you still see Sara Thomas for electrolysis treatment?

Do you get and scabbing on your face after treatment?

What after care regime do you use and how often do you use this?

Do you have any fine/vellus/blonde hair on your face being treated?

I would really appreciate any help/advice you could offer me. I want t carry out treatment on my face, but im just abit worried about my skin reaction, as I had scabbing after a 3 minutes test patch :S

thank you

hi shelly
dont tweeze now yr getting treatments.
yes i got some minor scabbing, but this goes away if u use witch hazel, get it from boots, n dnt use makeup after treatments for 2-3 days.

i had a mixture of fine and dark hair.

but you need to use witch hazel to help calm your face down…

gd luck

Is there a difference between using tea tree oil and witch hazel for aftercare (besides the fact some people have bad reactions to tea tree oil)?

Yes. While tea tree oil is a nice product - it is not considered an antiseptic, according to the FDA. Witch hazel is an astringent, which is labeled by the FDA - AND if you add a little green alcohol to the witch hazel you have made it an antiseptic (from increasing the alcohol content of the wh) with camphor added, which is an FDA labeled product.

I can give website info if you need it.
