Treatment time questions?

Hi everyone!

So, on the “treatment time” option on the eletrologist’s website that I have so long been planning on contacting, it says treatment time for the upper lip is approximately 3.5 hours… what does this mean? that with about 3.5 hours of work, my upper lip hair will be gone forever?

Also, the whole “full clearance” thing: when a hair is zapped by electrolysis, does it have the potential to grow back?

If so,is it thicker?

Thank you

They may be trying to provide a ball park figure, however it depends on how much hair you have there. If a woman had male pattern growth on her upper lip it is unlikely that it will be able to be fully treated in 3.5 hours.

A hair treated with electrolysis needs to be in the correct hair cycle, in order for it to be killed effectivley. Please run a search and you should find a lot of threads discussing this in detail.

When referring to full clearance, this is important because then all the hairs are coming through in the anagen phase (growth stage) making them ripe for the picking. As long as you clear the area each time you go in, you will be well on your way to permanent hair removal.

The average female upper lip can be cleared in 15 to 30 minutes, and as one continues treatment, there are fewer hairs to treat, so appointments get shorter, therefore it is easy to see how 3.5 hours of treatment time, spread out over 9 to 18 months would grant full permanent hair removal.

As for hairs growing back, a hair that was improperly treated, or was not in the right phase when it was treated, would grow back thinner next time. You can also grow new hairs in the future if one encounters any of the many physical problems that cause women to grow excess hair in the first place.

When you say an upper lip can be cleared in 15 to 30 minutes, is it thermolysis that is used? Because I’m using blend, and I haven’t been cleared yet after two 30 min sessions?!?

Out of curiosity, how long does a male upper lip usually take? (type III skin) Mine took about 5 hours to get to first clearance, with 5 x 1 hour appointments (erratically spaced out due to circumstances beyond her control.)

It all depends on the person treated, the method used, and the practitioner doing it.

I can usually get genetic females to first clearance in 15 - 60 minutes and those born male can get first clearance of the upper lip in 60 - 90 minutes in most cases. I did have one guy who had 1,000 hairs per line across his upper lip. No one could have done that in 60 minutes.

When I am doing a first clearance on a face, it is usually the area under the chin that takes the longest. The upper lip, cheeks and ball of the chin are no problem at all. A first time virgin client averages 3 hours or less per cheek, and as much time for the ball of the chin. As the reach and angles working under the chin and on the neck are more difficult to do, the work under there is slower than the rest of the face (assuming that the person doesn’t have hard reaches on the face as well).

Sorry to repeat my question, but I think it was overlooked!

Yes, depending on the amount of hair. James is referrring to MicroFlash / PicoFlash thermolysis specifically.

Blend is good, too, if that is the modality your practitioner is most skilled with. I would assume your electrologist is focusing on the thicker root structures first and then will narrow the focus to the medium and accelerated fine, long hair structures. Some people need more than two 30 minute sessions to clear an upper lip. If you have been a tweezer, waxer, threader or sugarer, and stopped prior to your first electrolysis treatment, then there will be regrowing hair cycling in up to 16 weeks.
