Hello everyone,
I had one session of laser for my underarms. After this I started electrolysis on my face and have loved it so far. I was thinking about switching to electrolysis for underarms as well.
10 hrs of electrolysis will come up to 600 USD for me with an Apilus machine done by someone with 2 yrs of experience.
On the other hand, a total of 6 laser sessions with the Yag is costing me 600 dollars as well. I have already had one.
What is more feasible financially, time wise, results wise etc etc? I like the definite nature of electrolysis. Is 10 hrs enough for complete, permanent removal?
In theory, I bet ten hours is enough. We have pros here who could do it, I’m sure. I dunno how fast your electrologist is though. Very small areas are usually cheaper with electrolysis than laser, and I think the armpit qualifies as a relatively small area (not like legs or arms for example).
Your laser treatments (assuming they are performed correctly), should get you to at least 90% or more of your goal in this area too. You can touch of the rest with a quick bit of electrolysis for a few minutes if you needed to.
I think either choice will give you good results for a reasonable price if the practitioner is competent and the settings are correct, so you can make a personal choice based on what you like best. You probably won’t go too terribly wrong with either choice.
Thank you MPK.
What about the fact that I had ONE laser session already (12 wks ago, with sparse regrowth)? Will that not be a deterrent to electrolysis? I really prefer it more. I want to avoid lasers as much as possible.
But mainly, I want to save as much money as I can…there is a lot to be done lol
It won’t be a deterrent to electrolysis AT ALL. It is very common for people to have a few laser sessions to reduce the hair before switching to electrolysis. Laser often makes electrolysis easier because it seems to straighten out distorted follicles if anything. You’re good to go.
Based on your feelings about the matter, just go ahead and do electrolysis. There’s no reason to do anything that will have you second-guessing yourself.
I had 6 sessions of Laser on my underarms, followed by electrolysis to clear up the remaining 10% or so of hairs (took me about 15mins to get clearance on the first electro session). This combo worked very well for me.
It sounds good that you have had sparse regrowth, 12 weeks since your Laser session. You might want to wait a few more weeks though and if more hair returns and it looks like there is enough to justify a Laser session, perhaps have a 2nd before you start electro.
I love Laser for coarse hairs. As well as the cost, for 6 sessions of Laser you will only spend about 2 hours total at appointments… for electrolysis it will be at least those 10 hours.
If you go for electrolysis, do try to get clearance as quick as possible.
