Vaniqa and professional electrolysis

Hi everyone!

I’m new here and have just started having professional electrolysis done on my upper and lower lip and a bit on my chin. My Doctor gave me a perscription for Vaniqa and told me to use it while doing electrolysis.

Has anyone done this yet?

I’m a little confused with Vaniqua…do you have to stay on it ALL the time for the rest of your life to keep slowing hair growth, or does it eventually make it permanently stop growing, without doing electrolysis or laser treatments that permanently remove hair???

any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

When you stop Vaniqa all the hair will grow in like it did before. It only works for as long as you are actively using it.

If you are getting electrolysis, there is no reason to ever use Vaniqa, because it will slow the growth of hairs and your electrolysis could take many times longer than it does for a normal person (instead of being done in a year, it might take you multiple years). If you get your first clearance with electrolysis right away, and then go in every week for touch ups, you won’t even need the Vaniqa because you will be perpetually hair free (as soon as new baby hairs pop up, you go in and have them removed immediately).

I would only recommend Vaniqa for someone who has no access to electrolysis, and whose insurance pays for it completely (it’s expensive as heck, way more costly in the long run than permanent removal).

There is absolutely no reason for you to use Vaniqa when you’re trying to get rid of your hair with electrolysis. It’s counterproductive. All it does is slow down the growth ONLY while you’re using it. There are no long term effects on the hair.

With electrolysis, you’re supposed to go in often and for long treatments at the beginning to get to a clearance, i.e. all visible hair gone from the area you want hairfree for good. There is no benefit of trying to slow down the growth while you’re doing it. You should treat that hair with electrolysis not try to slow down the growth.
