Vellus vs. Coarse Hair & Electrolysis

I am currently getting electrolysis on my sideburns and upper lip. The hair on my sideburns is vellus and light in color (some blond, some a little darker but none are coarse) and on my upper lip mostly vellus, light as well with a few dark coarse ones.

My electrologist told me that since most of my hair is of this vellus, light type I will be done faster than if I had coarse, dark hair. She told me that is because vellus hair is killed more easily and chances are it will not have to be treated more than once. I asked her to estimate how long I will have to keep coming back… she said at least 9 months because of the hair cycles but that I should be definetly done within a year or less.

I would appreciate comments, clarifications as I have not really read anything on this board regarding vellus vs. coarse hair treatment and if one is treated faster than the other.

She is technically correct. Coarse hair is stronger and sometimes needs a few zaps to be killed completely. Vellus hair is weaker and can be killed easier. It doesn’t mean though that the vellus hair will be killed the first time around for 100%. There are other factors involved such as skill, insertion, growth phase of the hair etc.
