which is better: to pluck each hair after it’s been treated or treat all the hairs and then wax everything at the end?
thanks.
When a hair follicle has been treated, the electrologist then extracts the hair from the follicle. We don’t call it “plucked” because that implies that the hair wasn’t properly treated. The hair should extract without the hard tweeze that is felt with home tweezing/plucking.
Waxing after an electrolysis treatment should never be done. There are several reasons. First of all, the treated skin becomes reddened - and applying hot wax over this freshly treated skin would cause more irritation. Second, applying wax on the skin subjects the skin to products that can sometimes cause an allergic reaction.
The best practice is to treat a hair (or a group of hairs) and then extract them with forceps/tweezers - as long as the hairs are coming out with little or no traction.
Definitely we want to treat and lift out the individual hairs so we can determine if the hair releases easily or whether we need to give another burst of energy because there is some friction. If we treat hairs then wax, then we have no way of knowing if the hair were treated properly because we have no way of knowing if it slides out nicely or if it resists.
Where did you learn about treating, leaving then waxing?
the electrologist i started going to treat my face, mainly my neck, says it better to wax the treated hairs cause it’s faster and she wants to stimulate all the hair to grow and than treat them all and waxing will do that. i chose not to do that (she treats the hair and extracts with tweezer)and she waid she would do what i want, but it will take longer to get results my way instead of her way.
Waxing prior to FIRST TREATMENT ONLY is fine, though not necessary if the electrologist is fast and can schedule long sittings to clear the area. It makes the hair that is being treated synchronized and in the anagen phase of growth. However, waxing after you’ve started treatments is a no-no.
huh? Waxing nor tweezing should be done while in the process of electrolysis.
LAgirl said wax once prior to electrolysis and then no more. She did not say it can be done once you start the process of electrolysis.
What Dee said.
i guess i should clarify myself better. i know not to wax or pluck in between treatments. my question was referring to my actual appt with my electrologist. she told me it’s better to treat all the hairs in my neck and then at the end of the session wax them all instead of extracting each one individually throughout the session. my question is which is better: durring an electrolysis session to extract each hair individaully or wax them all at the end?
Crazy. Your electrologist wants money for waxing all the hairs she treated with electrolysis? Yes? No? Does she charge you extra for the waxing? I do not agree with this AT ALL. She can easily treat 3-5 hairs and flip the forceps to lift the hair out. If a hair resists, she can re-treat until it slides out. How can she discover a resistant hair if she doesn’t even test the hair after treating it? Also, if she waxes, not all hairs are bothersome in a given area and she will be pulling out the normal good hairs that are not a problem. Do you really want all hairs gone so you look like a piece of plastic!!??
Thanks for the clarification, mama. I work in a different way. I treat individual hairs and then extract those individual hairs with my forceps. No waxing necessary because it is not desirable. Crazy.
I am totally there with Dee. Waxing to remove the treated hairs is not the right thing to do.
What you describe is a bad idea. If she doesn’t pull out the hair after she zaps them, she has no way to know whetehr they were treated properly and then just wants to wax them. Not the right way to go. Some hairs need a few zaps. You never know.
