I don’t think your hair problem is too bad other than the longer and darker hairs. Electrologists don’t usually treat the fine peach fuzz like “vellus” hairs that don’t get very long and aren’t really noticeable, except when someone is really close up and at an angle to the light.
You should probably work on getting full clearance on the dark hairs and keeping it cleared with regular sessions. You may need longer sessions at first.
I am seeing a client this morning with long blond hairs all over her neck. She travels from northern Ohio and our appointments are four hours in length at a time. I could not do this well without the epilator I have (Apilus Platinum). The magnification I have and the lighting I have are most important as well. That is the key when working on this amount of hair. Some may think it shouldn’t be removed, but the client wants it removed, so it is within the range of possibilities if the electrologist is willing to go for it. Some don’t have the stamina or the equipment. This can be back breaking and neck aching work on the part of the electrologist, so laziness is not the word for those practitioners that will only do an hour. It’s all physical. Proper positioning is very important. Auto-sensor mode is required for work like this, in my opinion. It can be accomplished, but it is not easy for either side.
Hi everyone, thanks James for posting the pictures!! Just to clarify those photos were taken at the start of my treatment - I might have only had 2 treatments at that stage - you can see the scabs. Since that time over a year ago now my cheeks are looking great, upper lip quite good too except the middle, and like I explained before my neck seems to be worse - ok! maybe not worse just not much better! anything really course has gone but the finer/longer hairs are still coming back.
Today went for my 34th session on face to the new therapist again. Her machine is slower but she does seem very good at her job. Her machine seems more painful too! Had thermolysis 1 hour. She took from sides of face maybe 10 mins on side of both cheeks, upper lip 15 minutes and she took as much as she could (or I could bear)from the centre lip, and 20 minutes on neck. She finished off with about 8 minutes on belly area. also only on some occasions I felt a tug on the hair being taken out, with my other therapist I can feel quite a few that are being pulled out - doesnt feel like plucking though just a tug. Hope that makes sense! thanks
Candela, 3 hours a month for all those areas is not that much, considering that you’ve added more areas half way through. Are you clearing the area each time?
I think your money would be better spent if you go once every 3 weeks and for as long as it takes to clear all areas you’re getting treated. OR, you should just concentrate on several areas that bother you most for now and make sure those are tackled.
Unfortunately, that’s a lot of areas to treat at once when money is tight. So it will mean you’ll be going for longer than 12 months. It takes 12 months when you leave each time with no hair on any area you’re treating.
I get my feet and nipples cleared pretty much every time I treat them, which is only 15 minutes about every 4-6 weeks. My face is never completely cleared of all the dark hairs, which is what I wanted to do because otherwise I would remove them by threading and then I could get coarse hairs again.
I know people here say that the fine hairs are not noticeable from 4 feet away, which is true, but if you have fair skin it looks a lot better without the dark hairs. I was also hoping that if I got them removed now, hopefully I won’t have coarse hairs growing in the future from hormonal reasons or whatever.
Also, I’ve probably only spent like 2 or 3 hours on my neck total. So it’s just my face and then feet and breasts sometimes.
I still go in 3 times a month because I still get some dark coarse hairs on my face. If they go away sometime soon then I could go in every 2 or 3 weeks, but would that really save money or be more effective? Wouldn’t I just pay the same amount to get the same amount of hairs removed.
I did have that horrible electrologist this summer also who took hundreds of dollars of my money and made the problem worse.
Candela focus on the areas that are the most important if money is tight! if you do the face first and only focus on the face, you’ll be happier in the end , therefor you can move on to other areas as well.
For now I’m only doing my face and have seen huge improvements before I was throwing in breast , stomach, bikini, armpits… and got no results…check out my pics in my posts.
today went for my 35th session 45 min session!!! went to the new lady again as she is very close to my home and I like the fact that there is less of a ‘pull’ sensation on most of the hairs when removing with the tweezer. she spent the entire time on cheeks, neck about 5 minutes on lip and 10 mins on lower lip. From my last session I had a few scabs on my neck and that was all. this therapist uses thermolysis and is an older machine - not sure which. thanks
Update had my 35th and 36th sessions last week. 45 min on face and neck (mainly neck) with 15 min on belly. Second session I did belly but she stopped sooner cos my skin goes very bumpy. prob did about half an hour at the most. Again went to new therapist who uses a sterex machine thermolysis. She is very careful and I barely feel any pull when she removes the hair.
not been on here for a while due to no internet!!! unfortunately the electrolysis hasnt stopped either!! since I last logged on in May I have counted 15 sessions of electrolysis. mainly most sessions done on face as before still using the technision who uses the sterex machine which I prefer. out of every 20 hairs she takes I bet I feel one or two with a slight pull or pop. the hairs are much finer now but still growing quite long. think I have just got used to seeing barely any hair that I keep going back. will the finer hairs ever stop growing? my last session was 45 min on face and neck mainly neck. to date since december 2008 looking through my progress I have had about 50 sessions. now go for a session every two weeks but only need 45 min now. how long will this go on for, seems to be forever! and just as a reminder this all started from having laser on my downy facial hair which resulted in excess hair growing.
Ugh. If you have a lot of downy hair, then that kind and amount of hair can definitely require greater than 30 sessions and can take up to 36 months??? or more?? or less?? I am being widely general with my remarks because I am using my imagination here as to what your situation may be like as compared to all the ladies that I have treated with fine hair. Your goal should be toward thinning, not total removal. Noticeable hairs only. Sounds like your lady can see the thin hairs, which is a plus. Pulling is not. Ask her about this, okay? Good to hear from you Leo.
around session 51 had a 45 min session on my face well mainly neck area.
although she spent about 10 min on upper lip and five on lower lip. she did a little on sides of face which is looking great theses days. neck hair seems to be more persistant! see how I go over next three months of regular treatments before I visit doctor again. had a half hour session on belly area too.
hi, just an update. Had about three more sessions since I last checked in.Think early december had an hour and half hour session just before Christmas and half hour session in new year on Tuesday 11th January. so this is about 54th session, but recently just had half hour sessions but two weekly.
This last session she took all obvious hairs on face but prob could have done with another 15 mins to take some off neck area. nOthing too obvious is left on my face just neck. will prob need to go back within two weeks.
had another half hour session on my face neck area. treated a little of face and upper lip prob 5 min and rest of time on jaw line and neck. could have defo done with another 15 min but as mentioned before money is tight. will go back soon. this is about 55th session
went about two weeks ago for half hour electrolysis session on face but mainly neck area. prob 57th session. she got most of hairs that needed to go. prob could have done with 5 more minutes but I am fussy and do notice those finer hairs now. I have another session booked for next week. Could have done with going today really mainly for neck area-face area doing well really! anyway will ask my therapist to lower setting a little if possible as after treatment my skin is very bumpy and scabs over but very rough and sore looking mainly on neck area. its like I have had a dose of acne. but now left with dark marks where skin has healed - so would like to try a lower setting to avoid this if possible, but at the same time I dont want any pull when she removes the hair. keep u posted.
58th session half an hour last Thursday. a few hairs were taken from side of face on both sides about 5 mins on upper lip of just the longer darker hairs (too painful for finer hairs!) and spent rest of time on neck and jawline with electrolyis. my therapist lowered the setting of her machine as too many dark marks are being left on my neck. my neck was not as Acne looking after the treatment as before but still lumpy. healed quicker too. already booked for my next appointment in two and a half weeks. thanks
10th May had 59th session on face of electrolysis - could have done with 45 min but most of hairs were removed. mainly taken from neck and jaw area. I did see lots of scabbing after this session especially on neck-my skin looked a mess really.
Went for my 60th session 28th May and my therapist tweeked the machine (lowered settings) due to the bad scabbing. my therapist uses the sterex machine and had no bad reacion this time round. not sure if I had been causing my face to be too sensitive with using facial scrubs but only tiny minor scabbing this time. anyway it was another half hour session again very few taken from face but mainly jaw and neck. most have gone except for few finer hairs on face and fine hairs were left on jaw area which I would have preffered to have been removed. probably being too fussy! Hair on face is great now just neck and jaw that bothers me the most now. going again in two weeks.
hi people been a while!!! but the sessions of electrolysis have continued!!
14th June - half hour session on face and neck
30th June - 45 minutes session on face and neck
14th July - half hour session on face and neck
6th August - 15 min session on face and neck
13th August - 5-8 mins on face/neck and 20 min on belly area
All in all I am finally seeing the results I wanted on my face and neck. I could do with still going every two weeks but doing 15 minute sessions only but to save on the journey I am now going to go every three weeks for half an hour session. so come along way from the hour sessions!! not many hairs are taken from sides of face anymore just odd few, mainly from jaw and neck…hopefully nearly finished
