Well, I do think you should get started because I’m sure that 6 months don’t the line you will definitely say ‘I wish I had started this sooner!’
But, I would get consultations with both. If you like them both and are happy with both treatments, I would start off with Sara for clearance and then continue with up-keep in Parkside (as they will be easier for you to get to and make appointments with).
If you are really hesitant about going to Sara (distance etc), yes, please go for a consult at Parkside asap
Sharon can also give you decent clearance in a short period if you can put in the hours every week. So really, it would only be at the initial stage that you would be spending a lot of time with her. Cost wise it will probably be the same too, as when you buy a package from them (the best way to do it), the cost is only £13.50 for 15mins.
I completely understand that you want to find as many as possible to compare the work as I went through the same thing. I was so frustrated by the lack of registered electrologists in London but I don’t regret my decision at all.
Also, the clinic where I have my Laser claims they have a BIAE registered electrologist but she’s not listed in their directory so I wonder why ^_-. I think she may use an Apilus but I’m not sure. You could call to inquire about this stuff and about prices and see if you want a consult there.
I’m going to inquire when I next go in for my laser treatment. I’m thinking of maybe testing her out on my fingers or something.
I’m happy with Sharon but my sister needs a lot of work, so much so that I’m considering learning electrolysis myself but in the case it doesn’t happen, we do need someone who can do good work and fast.
Oh yes… found this clinic in Dorking that we might consider when she starts driving. If you drive I would definitely consider checking it out:
They use an Apilus but again not listed on BIAE so you would have to inquire.
Can add my two pence worth I think Sharon despite her slow technoloy is actually very fast esp. when using Diathermy. Also as much as I liked Sara i don’t think she would have done as good a job as Sharon has done with my fine hair.
But have to admit that at the time I really only popped in for a couple of 15mins sessions to do the obvious hair. Sara is very busy and stated before v. nice. Whereas with Sharon I have put in a lot of hours. Sharon was recommneded to me by Stopit.
Okay so you’ve been to both right? Sara is quote far for me, whereas Sharon quite close. I have asian skin, my hair is noticeable. Where would you recommend me?
I know one should check and compare themselves, but I also like to see what others say.
It’s not really Sharon’s decision. It depends on the salon owner and if she thinks it’s worthwhile upgrading all the machines and having her electrologists train up on them.
They are always booked up and business is good so from their perspective, why spend all the money on equipment and time out for training?
Yes, of course there is the argument of offering the patient the best treatment possible but then that really depends on their way of thinking.
I am thinking of putting in a proposal but it’s very difficult to get Sharon’s thoughts on the matter given that the walls are so thin.
If I do, I will let you know thereish (and you to sista, if you go there), maybe we can all sign it. It might not make a difference but at least we have tried.
Sista, really, if you think you can put in more time with Sharon I think that would be the most obvious choice. No one I have referred her to so far (for hair removal and red vein removal) has been disappointed.
Yea, I do wanna go to her. Just reading topics on here makes me think I wonder if it is a possibility for Sharon to upgrade her equipment. I will be going to her, hopefully soon (iA). And I’d sign that. Thank you stoppit&tidyup.
Wait - why is Sara better for clearance but Sharon better for upkeep?
Also, what is the difference between Flash/thermolysis and blend?
ARGH!
I’m not sure what to do. My entire chest and abdomen area is covered with hair. It’s just slightly thicker than “normal” people’s downy hair and longer than most people’s abdomen hair, so it is very noticeable, especially because the hair is black.
There’s also the very thick happy trail running into the pubic area from immediately below my belly button. From between my breasts to immediately above my belly button, there’s also a trail of the same downy, but less sparse, hair as the rest of my abdomen (as described above) with the odd very stubborn, thick and long hair. Because the hair grows downwards, it’s more noticeable than the regular downy abdomen hair that I have.
I plan on getting laser on the happy trail and then continuing with electrolysis once it’s too sparse/thin. I also want to get electrolysis on the hair in the line above my belly button. I want the hair completely gone, not just reduced. However, it will look very obvious because the rest of the surrounding chest/abdomen area will still be covered in hair.
I would ideally like the whole chest and abdomen area cleared, but it seems like it will be very time consuming and costly. So, what do I do? I don’t want there to be two distinct patches of trails (cleared) vs the rest of my chest and abdomen (uncleared). Is it feasible to have the entire area cleared?
It’s the one thing stopping me from seeking treatment.
(Cross-posted on my own thread.)
smurf - Sara may not be ‘better’ but she will be faster because of the technology she uses. You will get clearance very quickly if you can both put in the time (which I believe she doesn’t have much of at the moment).
I suggested that Sharon is better for upkeep as she is more accessible and after the initial clearance it just makes sense to go somewhere that’s easier to get to.
If you lived near Sara, then yes, all the treatment with her too would be fine.
My abdomen hair is exactly the same as yours. I am also reasonably light skinned so for a temporary measure, I bleach. This makes most of the hair other than between my breasts and the trail downwards almost invisible.
You are right, I don’t think I would ever consider Laser (for anything above the belly button), yes the hair is slightly thicker and definitely longer but I don’t think it’s thick enough for laser. Added to this, I would be wary of induced growth especially between the breasts.
My choice would be for electrolysis. A good electrologist will be able to clear the hair in the middle line to make it look like the surrounding much finer hair. There will be lots of small much finer hairs mixed in, you just can’t see them yet. It shouldn’t look odd.
Someone like Sharon that uses the older tech will be able to get you quick clearance with diathermy (I did a test between the breasts and she managed to do a fair bit in just 10mins), then continue with blend.
I have 30min appointments every three weeks (for the face). 10-15mins on the upper lip and the remaining on the chin/sides of face. And about 1min around my areolas. The last area has gone great, just my right areola has a few that are persistent and still needing zapping but they are a lot finer than when I started.
Last year I made good progress with the sideburn area. Then continuing work early this year that didn’t made a ‘visible’ difference (as it was mainly maintenance) expect around my eyebrows that look much better now. For the last few months the visible difference has come from upper lip treatment. I’ve never wanted clearance but am amazed how good it’s looking just with coarser/longer/unbleachable hairs removed. Now that it’s under control so to speak, I will be starting to do a bit more work on the lower cheek area.
I have also started electrolysis on the underarms to finish is left after Laser.
Definitely very happy with how it’s going. For example, I had 45min treatment yesterday with a good 15-20mins on my upper lip alone. As I was leaving the skin was raised and red but by the time I got home it had gone down. Today I couldn’t stop looking in the mirror at how much of a difference that short treatment time had made and my skin is looking great and normal as if I had nothing done. My electrologist was on a roll too - she was doing about 1 hair every 6 seconds; very fast insertions.
You mentioned that when your sister is ready for electrolysis you may go for a quicker removal technique for the first clearance, and I thought maybe this place in Woking could offer this. It’s a little bit further than Dorking but they have lots of experience and are listed on the Dectro site.
that is really great actually! she’s just started her degree at surrey uni (guildford) and it’s only a 10min train journey from there!
omg! i’m kinda excited. i will talk to her about going for a consultation and test patch. dunno if she will go without me but i’m sure we can work something out.
i hope they’re good, she could actually start her treatment now and it’s easy enough for her to go every week. fingers crossed.
Thought I should do a quick update. I have 45min appointments every 3 weeks.
Upper lip is going well. I still have appointments every three weeks but only about 10mins is spent on the upper lip now. I still have lots of tiny, fine hairs but I’m not fussed about those. Just as long as it looks like my upper lip isn’t hairy from a normal distance and bleached hairs that look obvious in the sunlight are gone, that’s all I’m after. So I have got to the point that even after 3 weeks, just before my next app, my upper lip is still looking pretty good, without lots of obvious hairs that need zapping.
I only need to spend a few minutes on each underarm now (thermolysis) and we are just dealing with finer hairs.
Therefore, I have more time to spend on my face - about 25 minutes. So I’m continuing to have treatment spread out on my chin and cheeks for an overall reduction.
In addition, I will also be taking my sister with me for a treatment next Saturday. I feel that my electrologist does really good work and she can do both blend and thermolysis as appropriate. We will probably buy a 6 hour package to begin with.
Unfortunately I can’t get to Woking to assess that electrologist personally. So we have decided that when my sister has had a few hours worth of treatment from Sharon and knows what good electrolysis is, she can have a test patch at the Woking place and will be in a better position to compare.
I have tried to call the Woking clinic a few times but usually no one picks up and they don’t seem to have an answerphone. The one time they picked up they said they’d have the electrologist call me back to answer my questions but it never happened. Given what I’m used to at Parkside, this wasn’t encouraging.
I finally took my sister for her consultation (and 15 min) appointment at Parkside.
She was a little nervous on the way there and took a painkiller just in case she found the pain difficult to deal with. Once Sharon started however, she was fine. She had a little bit of blend on her upper lip and some coarse growing hairs that she had been holding back from plucking. The area between the slant of her eyebrow and hairline (which is only about 0.5-0.75inches) is covered in hair and as we will be tackling that foremost, Sharon did some diathermy there.
I had my regular 45min treatment directly after her. Once done, we had a chat and it seemed like she was really pleased - even though she only had a little treatment she could see a visible difference. Feeling a lot more confident about embarking on this, we booked the 9hour course as it is the most economical.
Today her skin looks fine, even where she had some diathermy.
Her next appointment is in a few weeks when Sharon gets back.
She will do 20mins on the upper lip, 20 mins on the eyebrow region and 5 mins on the glabella. As my sister will be on holiday from uni, she will probably have another treatment soon after this one. We want to clear the forehead/eyebrow region as quick as possible as we feel it will make the biggest difference to the appearance of her face, for only a small amount of treatment.
What’s her hair like on her forehead? Any before/after pictures?
Oh, and I wanted to ask, how much have you spent on yourself so far for electrolysis (I know you have added other areas along the way but still interested).
So far I have spent just under £1000 (in almost 2 years) and just about to buy a 9hr package so another £500.
Her hair is dense, long, black and not fine; you have seen some of her pictures.
Sharon agreed that my sister has a lot of work to be done, I don’t think she feels that way about most clients like myself, who can get away with bleaching.
im new to this site and was jus wanting to know - hopefully u ladies can help me - is it possible to switch from using an epilator to electrolysis? and do you need to let ur hair grow for it to work?
